19th May ’17: Yellow’s different faces

Happy Friday, lovely people ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒผโšก๏ธ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿง€๐Ÿ’›
Thoughts of yellow have been pinging me back to the happy sound of my mum’s rendition of ‘Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree’ when I was a kid. I loved the idea of this tree, garlanded with yellow, and I wanted to put ribbons on one myself (purple ones, naturally). Maybe that’s why I love yarn-bombed trees so much now. I recently learned something interesting about yellow from branding expertsย @imagibrand; that caution must be exercised with yellow because, whilst it makes some people feel optimistic, it can make others feel agitated and anxious. It can induce anything from clarity (light clear yellow) through to instability (citrine yellow) or even depression (dark yellow). Utterly fascinating. I’d like to look into it more. In the meantime, here’s a science journal that my dad read from cover to cover when he was 18 and which he says inspired him to pursue a career in science (yellow, says ImagiBrand, is ‘well-suited for academic-related products’). I think In his case, yellow denoted curiosity and clarity (it stimulates the logical side of the brain) and helped him to see a way forward. Anyway, have a great day and see you on the other side.
