14th June ’17: Colour v Dewey

Happy Humpday, folks ❤️🍊😉🍏🚙👾👩🏻‍🎤
I’m a big fan of places where books hang out, especially libraries. I love the colours (obviously), the smell (there’s nothing like shoving your nose deep into a book) and the awesome order of the Dewey decimal system. Well, I say I love Dewey but my love of colour means that subject order and colour order often end up squabbling here at The Colour File HQ, like indignant siblings. “What do you MEAN ‘Colour order is best?’ How are you supposed to FIND anything?!?!” “Colour order is exciting! And besides, everyone knows their ‘smart-thinking’ books are orange. So THERE!!!” I’ve worked part-time in a school library for a few years now and it’s all I can do to stop myself ordering everything in rainbow fashion. Between you and me, I’ve had the children put the Ladybird books in colour order a few times and it gave me (and them) deep joy. There’s something immensely gratifying about things in colour order (as per my pic – colour won, yay!). Dewey (or Dui, as he preferred – he hated the use of unnecessary letters) would probably spin in his grave. I figure that had we met, we may not have clicked…unlike you and me, my colourful friends. Have a great day.
