11th August ’17: Happy Birthday, E xxx

Happy Friday – or rather, ‘Happy Birthday’ 🎂🎂🎂🎂

Eleven years ago today, my second-in-command made his spectacular entrance into the world, an eager 10 weeks early. He subsequently spent his first five weeks cosied up in an incubator, cooking a bit more, like a Victoria sponge that’s not quite done yet. Separated from him except during my waking hours, I remember padding along to see him at a day old, only to discover the nurses had snuggled him up in a multicoloured blanket (top left). Seeing him adorned in these colours made my sorry heart sing, and I have adored crocheted and knitted blankets all the more ever since. In the intervening years, life hasn’t always felt colourful, and often black and white – actually, more black and blacker at times – but this tiny scrap, grown bold and strong, has helped to redress that balance and filled my world to the brim with colour, mirth and pint-sized wisdom. So today’s post (in truth, all of them, but especially today’s) is for the boy wonder, the wonder boy, who has made all the difference there could possibly be. Happy birthday ❤️💕❤️Oh, and one of your presents is that I won’t talk about colour today…much…
