15th August ’17: A few library truths

Happy Tuesday, Instapeeps.

In my job as a school librarian, I learnt a few things: a) children are genetically predisposed to turning down page corners; b) parents don’t always know best (Wimpy Kid does aid reading, even if YOU prefer The Secret Garden); and c) given the choice of the same book but with two different covers, kids will ALWAYS pick the prettiest. In other words, they choose a book by its cover. Whilst I don’t agree with judging people in this way, with books I totally get it. Research reveals that more than 93 per cent of us put most importance on visual factors when buying products, and books are no exception. Imagine my delight when I arrived at my friend’s place in Aberporth and was told I was sleeping in the library. Given five minutes, I’d rearranged the books (was this her plan?) and – tadah! Don’t they look pretty alongside yesterday’s charity shop finds? Anyway, the sun is shining and I need to grab it. See you on the other side.
