6th September '17: Unexpected beauty

Hi Colour Filers 🎱🎱🎱
Years ago I bought a basket of pool balls (but no table) from a boot sale. I hadn’t a clue what I was going to do with them but loved the colours so bought them anyway. Now they’re fodder for my shelfscapes & all has become clear (only a decade in the waiting, then. See 4 & 8 May). I recently read that the colours of pool balls (there are ‘solids’ and ‘stripes’) aren’t accidental & were especially chosen to be properly distinguishable from each other (there’s also some great maths in it for you numbers fans out there – totally beyond me, I’m afraid). Balls 1, 2 and 3 (plus 9, 10 & 11) are primary colours yellow, blue and red; 4, 5 and 6 (and 12, 13 & 14) are secondary colours purple orange and green; and ball 7 is tertiary (red + purple = maroon). In recent years, some have been replaced with ‘Skittle’ colours for better contrast and therefore easier TV viewing (including pink, cyan and light green) but purists say original is best and we shouldn’t try to reinvent the ball. Where’s the most unexpected place you’ve found beautiful colours?
