11th October '17: Blue & green, be friends

Happy Wednesday, folks 💙💚💙💚

‘Blue and green should never be seen’.
Apparently. In my twenties, I remember someone telling me this with as much certainty as if it were decreed by the Magna Carta and me responding, ‘Says who?’ I know they’re located next to each other in a basic colour wheel so they’re not ‘complementary’, and therefore technically even though they’re neighbours they’re not really friends. (The saying ends ‘…except with a colour in between’ – someone to keep these neighbours civil, maybe?) But one thing I’ve learned from all the experts who’ve featured in the colour influencers section of The Colour File is that it’s exactly these kinds of rules that are made to be challenged and even broken. I found blue and green getting along famously, knitted together in this @rugcouture@maddisonjaynedesign rug (bottom left) at @decorex_international and in this handprinted paper in @frompaperchase(top right). The vintage book of Scottish poetry also made me realise that tartan has been doing blue and green brilliantly for years and I don’t hear anyone complaining about that. So if you’ve been avoiding this pairing, or, indeed, red and green (only to be seen ‘on an Irish queen’…except, erm, at Christmas, perchance?) I reckon it’s time to remind this divided duo that they can actually be really good pals if they just go with the flow. Here’s to a conflict-free day.
