23 November 17: Little squares of yellow

As a lover of colour and pattern (and a fiend for facts), somewhere I often head for inspiration is bookshops. Lately, I’ve noticed is how many yellow books there are so I wasn’t surprised to hear that there’s method and logic behind this. The reduction of covers to tiny thumbnails on online retail sites mean publishers increasingly want their books to stand out from everyone else’s. And what better way than to choose yellow. It jumps out from the page with little effort – kapow!!! Not only that but yellow is deemed gender-neutral and can denote happiness (for self-help and smart thinking) or impending hazard (for thrillers). A book colour for all seasons.
