26 November 17: Clever colour alchemy

When I see hydrangeas, I think of two things: firstly, how the little boy next door to my Great Aunty Lisa decided to show off and eat one (no, they shouldn’t be eaten and yes, he did throw up blue vomit); and secondly, how I never tire of the fact that you can change their colour simply by altering the pH of the soil. It’s simple chemistry yet there’s something almost magical and alchemistic about this transformation. I have a similar colour thrill when I see shot silk, chameleons and reversible bags. When it comes to colour, I really am quite easily pleased.
